This week wasn't too bad. I thought the assignments were really
interesting and I feel as though I learned a lot. It is crazy to now see
my perspective on the his vs. hers topic after these assignments and reading
other blogs. I have never really noticed it in the past and it never
really bothered me but within the last few days I have noticed it everywhere
and it is driving me crazy. Not because I am offended but because I know
that it is wrong. In the bible it always refers to he or him. I
have realized that in the passed but never really thought much about it.
Now after doing these assignments and talking on the topic it is cool to
see that in modern writing it is trying to be changed. I think it sounds
a lot more professional when it is not sexist. I really liked the assignment
where we had to choose other words so that it wasn’t sexist. This really got me thinking and I now see
myself making those mistakes and having to fix them. One error that I saw in this past week was my
own error. I noticed that when I send
emails out to my dance moms, I always say the “girls” because I am talking
about my dancers and all of them are girls… as of right now. It got me thinking because I do have boys in
a hip hop class and you never know if any boys are thinking about joining
another style of dance and so I shouldn’t be sexist and say “girls”. I should
be saying dancers or students. Within
the past week I have fixed this error and will remember from here on out.

This is how I felt when I realized I was using "girls" in all of my work emails instead of "dancers" or "students."
I also like trying to come up with different words to avoid sexism. You are right though I wouldn't have blinked an eye with you referring to the girls in the class. I guess not until I was the one who had a boy in there would it have even occurred to me.
