Blog 5

This week truly surprised me. I thought I was going to do poorly, but I did well with the help of the book. I learned a lot about who or whom, because this was something I was usually unsure of. There are some sentences where “whom” sounds right, but it’s actually wrong! For anyone struggling with it the way I was, here is a link to a funny comic that explains it really well: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/who_vs_whom
Hopefully with that and the book, you’ll never forget! That site does a few comics regarding grammar, so it’s a good thing to check out if you want an easy way to remember rules.
Plurals and possessives are so important and a huge pet peeve of mine when people mix them up. For weeks at work, one of our teams called “The Ninjas” had a powerpoint slide that said, “The Ninja’s.” The Ninja’s what!? A good thing to think whenever you’re adding an apostrophe - does this belong to someone? Unless it’s its… then it’s the opposite (confusing)!
The best site I’ve found to help with any grammatical questions is https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/. I’ve been using the site since high school, and it is highly reliable and accurate. It has helped me with many papers, and in classes like this one, it is a good source to double check your knowledge and gives a few more examples.

The typo I saw this week was a handmade sign that said, “Make sure your registered to vote!”  It should have said, “Make sure YOU’RE registered to vote.”
