This week I learned a lot from the AP book. Throughout the quiz I would read through the question and take a guess on what I thought it would be, it almost never was my guess. I again realized that I should never guess when it comes to grammar because it surprises me every time. One of the main things that shocked me were the numerals. In this section I learned something different every time. I also really enjoyed looking at different company names and how you refer to them. I never thought that the proper way to refer to eBay was like that. I also thought that it was very interesting how you properly do addresses and the times you are supposed to abbreviate different words in the address. I find it crazy how complicated some of the rules are and I often question who comes up with the rules. Another rule that made me re-think everything was the correct way to call a girl "blonde" I found this confusing because it is different for a girl and a boy. You use it as a noun for males and an adjective for all applications. I find it so strange that there isn't just one spelling for it. I think about people who have to learn English as a second language and just feel sorry that they have to also put up with all of these interchanging rules.

  1. I agree, Hanna. It is so difficult for us (now after reading this book) to imagine what it would be like for those learning English. I hear it is actually a difficult language to learn. But no wonder it is, there are so many different rules, it is amazing to see.

  2. I thought the blonde thing was pretty funny too. Isn't weird that our society is taking such great effort into moving into a gender "neutral" world, but still have a specific name associated to only women?
