Week 7 - Carly Rowe

Using the AP Stylebook, I have honestly learned so much that is correct, and so much that I have been doing wrong for years. I had to obtain this book for a course two semesters ago, so I’ve been using it for personal emails, writings, etc. since then because it is a helpful tool to have, and it helps me correct my own doing. There are many things that are helpful in this book, mainly the differences between certain words and when to use them, such as more than and over. I have learned (sometimes the hard way) when to use each in the proper way. As indicated in the AP book, it is acceptable in all uses to indicate greater numerical value. NUMERICAL. That helps an incredible deal when typing emails for work. The other helpful thing that pertains to me and work, and this upcoming election, is the correct terms in which you should be using Senate. Meaning, you capitalize such as U.S. Senate, the Senate. But you will lowercase plural uses such as the Utah senate, and Weber State senate. I hope these are as helpful to you as they have been for me, I have gone through the book just for “fun” to see if I’ve been using words incorrectly, and it is amazing to see the uses you think are correct, may not be. Enjoy!!

  1. Carly, I could not agree with you more! I have had my AP book for about a year now because I had to use it for one of my classes last year and I have found myself using it for my business emails, papers and just everyday life. It has helped me so much. I know I still have a lot to learn but at least I am correcting bad habits.
