For this blog post, I would like to
focus on the internet. Earlier this year The
Associated Press changed its stance on the capitalizing of both “internet”
and “web.” Officially, the AP now says that both “internet” and “web” shouldn’t
be capitalized. The AP also explains that the internet is not the same as the
web; therefore, shouldn’t be interchangeably used. A lot of web articles have
called it one of the biggest AP changes in history. A great article explaining
the importance of this change is: https://www.wired.com/2016/04/ap-finally-realizes-2016-will-let-us-stop-capitalizing-internet/.
It’s important to note that although “web” isn’t capitalized, the AP still wants
writers to capitalize the “World Wide Web.” Other “web” related words such as:
website, webcast, webcam and webmaster also are lowercase. This change shows
how much different the world views the internet today, compared to the early
1990s.
My wife and I went to a haunted
house this week in Salt Lake. While driving to the haunted house we both
noticed a spelling error on a gas station marquee. The marquee reads, “Try our
Colmobian coffee.” The gas station simply spelled Columbian wrong. It’s crazy
that such easy spelling mistakes can go unnoticed.
