Week 7- Keela Disterhaft

One thing that I learned this week after doing this AP Style homework was the proper way to write out company names. When writing an article I never consider the proper way to write a business’s name when using it in a news article.

The proper way to write a business’s name is to write it without any of the “distractor” that make the name unique. I always assumed that when I wrote the word “Yahoo” I would use the exclamation point. Any time that I see the logo Yahoo I always see the exclamation point at the end so it’s normal to want to use the punctuation at the end.

The other rule that I learned this week was that when referring to a title of a book you should use the word “titled” instead of using “entitled”. I thought that the words were interchangeable. The definition of the words is different.

Entitled means that you have the right to do or have something. The definition, according to the AP Stylebook, is for a title of a book or another type of composition.

One last rule that I thought was interesting is when referring to an infant or a girl. When a baby is under twelve months old, they are referred to as an infant. Once they are over that age then they are called a child. I thought that was interesting.

  1. All of these!!!!! These all caught me by surprise too. The entitled and titled one got me too. This is crazy you picked out the very ones that I struggled with. Along with the infant or child one, the woman and girl one was interesting too. It is a girl until 18. I might have guessed 21.
