Post 7: AP Stylebook

I have learned so much this week. There is so much I haven't thought about when writing. This week I saw a meme on Facebook about capitalization. When you capitalize a word incorrectly, just like punctuation, you can change the entire meaning of the sentence. That was one of the big things I learned this week from the AP Stylebook.

The first time I picked up an AP Stylebook was back in 2014, and there have been a lot of changes since that time. It is definitely important to remember that language is constantly changing. It is important to adapt to change and be humble enough to make those changes.

Back in 2014, one of the big things that stuck with me was redundancy. It is incorrect to say "first annual" or even "12 midnight." I think it is important to study the "times" section in the stylebook. I often see things like 12 noon and 12 midnight. AP says to use only noon and midnight. I believe it is written that way often because we hear people say things like "the event will take place at 12 o'clock noon" or they say "the party ends at 12 midnight." When we speak often times we don't consider our grammar but it is redundant to say things like that and it is incorrect.
