Grammar Site:
Grammar Girl, all the way! I know, not too creative.
I find that when I study, I sometimes get caught up in the
wording of the books. I like to look at rules or definitions from a variety of
sources so I am able to create my own definition and wording to remember. As I
was doing the assignments this week, I googled each of the rules and Grammar
Girl was the first to pop up. I kept finding myself at this site to help me not
only better understand the rule, but to see a variety of sentence examples for
me to base my answer off of. The more examples I see, the better I understand
the rule.
Editing Mistake:
Facebook is the best for finding grammar mistakes. This week
I found this meme:
Besides the obvious mistake of this not being a complete sentence, I noticed a different error. Normally I would skip over this, not thinking twice. However,
today I noticed a complex sentence with back and forth active and passive
voice. This has been one of the hardest concepts for me to understand. In this
example, the words “has went” do not agree with the statement. The rest of the
sentence is in active voice. The word “gone” could be the replacement for went
and still contain the word “has” prior to the word “gone.”
I just discovered Grammar Girl this week and I love it. I find the comment section on that website also has a lot of good information and examples. The writer does a good job at keeping her explanations simple and to the point.
ReplyDeleteI liked the picture your posted for this week. I found this same one and almost used it. I think it is funny how these mistakes slide by. I also use grammar girl and it has been a huge help to me in this class.
