This week has been very challenging for me. After spending 3
weeks in this course I am starting to realize how little I know about grammar
and editing. This week I have found that there are several grammatical rules
that I am not familiar with. I am hoping this course will help me improve my
writing skills.
Listed below is my 11th secret to writing well:
After many years as a student I have come to understand a
great secret to writing. My secret is simply this: “just write.” You might be
thinking that my secret contradicts our reading, but let me explain this secret
further. First, you must educate yourself and identify what you would like to
write about. Once you have taken this first step, sit down and just write. I have
found that when I overthink what I am writing about I get nowhere. I have also
found that when I let my thoughts run the piece of paper they will usually flow
better. Once your thoughts are written down you must rework them and clean them
up. (This is the trick I am still figuring out.)
This first grammatical error I found was a Chick-fila billboard
which reads “Eat Mor Chikin”
This grammatical error is pretty obvious and should read: “Eat
More Chicken.”
The second grammatical error I found was in an email I sent
for work. I need to be more careful when
I write emails.
This sentence should read: Attached to this email is the
Trade Application we discussed. If you have any questions please feel free to
reach out to me.
Nice catch on the Chik Fil A ads. Companies use this marketing a lot to appear clever and cute. I find them funny at the very least and it's interesting how ingrained this add is that we as the consumer barely notice how awful it is grammatically.
