Introduction: Jacob McMahon
My name is Jacob McMahon and I am currently studying Communication with emphasis in Journalism. I am a huge sports fan, so I would love to pursue a career that allowed me to focus on sports journalism, specifically. I am also minoring in Photography so that I can be multi-faceted in my career. As for my year in school, I am currently a junior. I was heading toward a degree early in my twenties, but I decided that school and money is not everything and I decided to take a break in order to make some memories while I am still young and essentially have no ties. I moved out of state, stopped worrying about money or responsibility quite so much and I was able to enjoy quite a few adventures and made some memories that I will never forget. This is my first semester back, so I am super excited to get back in the swing of things.
I was born and raised here in Ogden, UT. I attended Ben Lomond High School. I originally started school at Southern Utah University down in Cedar City, but upon realizing that I did not necessarily fit as a majority, I decided to be a real pain to my parents and transfer back to Weber State University. When I was a kid, I was always caught up in it being "just Weber." However, as I have matured, I realize that we all attend a wonderful university and we will all earn respected degrees. As for work, I currently work at Home Depot and I will hit my four year mark next March. I am starting to move up in the company and I will look to keep this occupation until I graduate so that I may pursue my dream job, which certainly does not consist of retail.
For fun, I like to play sports, do anything consisting of being outside, hang out with friends, go to concerts, read, run, work out and simply have a good time. I feel that I had to mature at a very young age and although I do see the benefit of that, I realize that I do not always have to be so serious with my life. Having said that, I am getting better at simply letting go and having fun rather than overthinking everything and focusing on undesired consequences.
From this class, I hope to sharpen my writing and editing skills, as I believe that this will be vital for my career. I would not state that I am the best at writing or grammar specifically, but I would love to become an expert because I tend to focus on the beauty of writing. In my opinion, the greatest compliment that I may receive one day is that I have a way with words and I hope that this class can help me achieve that skill.
