Hello All,
My 11th
secret to writing well would be to just keep writing, and write often. I have
found that through my whole college career that when I get stuck in my writing
that if I just keep writing, even though it may not make sense at the time,
that I get everything out of my head that I wanted to put on paper. What I also
found was that when I keep writing I keep what writing skills that I have and
like to write every opportunity that I get.
One instance I had of seeing bad grammar
was through one of my friends on Facebook who said: “So sad to leave this
place, what a great vacation it has been with my awesome daughter.” This being
two separate sentences joined by a comma instead of being separated by a
period.
The second instance was driving with my wife;
we saw this sign that said: “Slow children at play.” This is a case of needing
a comma to separate the ideas of “slow” and “children”, because they were not
supposed to be together.
The third instance I have of someone using
bad grammar is again someone speaking one Facebook saying: “You need to catch
up on the news and stay woke”. Now it may not be one of the rules stated in the
book, but it definitely does not sound right and needs to be replaced with the
word “awake”.
My friends and I always though it funny that people don't change the "slow children at play" signs. It's a pretty bad mistake that needs to be changed. Facebook posts are always a sure fire place to find grammar mistakes. Always a good time looking for them.
