Introduction: Amy Williams

Hi all! My name is Amy Williams and I am a senior here at Weber State (finally). I started college at Utah State University way back in fall of 2008. After two years, I transferred to Weber State to be closer to my family during a time that they needed me. I have taken a few semesters off here and there since then, but last fall I was able to re-enroll as a full time student. Assuming all goes well this semester, I will graduate this fall with my degree in English and a minor in Communication. My emphasis is Creative Writing.
I was born in Manchester, New Hampshire and I moved to Utah when I was a senior in high school in 2007. I love living in Utah. One of the many reasons I’m glad we ended up in Utah is because I met my husband here! We met in 2009, started dating in 2011, and we’ve been married for three years now. We have lived here in Ogden together for four years. We don’t plan on having kids, but we do have five rescue pets (two dogs and three cats) who take up a lot of our time!

Currently, I work in the marketing field, simply because that’s where I happened to end up while searching for a job a few years ago. To my surprise, I wound up loving it. It’s a great fit, because my English background is helpful when writing copy for advertisements and for composing the email templates for my team. I’m happy working in this field for now, because I am able to work at a job I enjoy and still have plenty of time to do what I’m really passionate about, which is writing poetry. I’ve only been writing poetry for about four years (I used to write mostly memoirs), but it is something I really enjoy. I hope to one day publish a book of poems.
As I mentioned, I have five rescue pets, so as you may have guessed, I am incredibly passionate about animal adoption. If you’re looking to get a cat or dog, I’d urge you to think about adoption first! I’m also very interested in music, though I don’t play any instruments myself. I try to surround myself with musicians because I enjoy listening to their creative process so much, and I love to sing along with them. My husband and I also have recently started a vinyl record collection. I love to go camping! I have only ever tent camped, but this summer my husband and I bought an old RV trailer that we are currently fixing up. Soon, we plan to buy a plot of land and stick the RV there for a little “vacation” home. It’ll be a great way to escape for a weekend with our dogs and not have all the hassle of trying to find a spot to pitch a tent, have a fire, etc. And all of our friends can come camp for free!
I’m looking forward to this class and learning how to edit! Nice to “meet” all of you!

  1. I feel you on being a senior, it is the best and worst at the same time. also my sister went to Utah State University and transferred to Weber, just thought that was neat. As for you taking in rescue pets I think that is really awesome of you!

  2. I think it is so cool that you are a poet, since that is definitely not one of my personal talents. How many poems have you written? Is the book you want to publish something you have currently started, or is it for the future? Would there be a theme to the book or just random poems you have written? I am purely curious! That's so awesome.
