Punctuation (Paula Ninataype)

As an editor at The Signpost it's important to make sure the punctuation of a sentence is correct. The entire sentence could have a change in definition, if editing is not done correctly. I have had the opportunity to to edit many news articles and the entire flow of a sentence and even the whole article can change with incorrect and correct punctuation. As we have gone through the week, I have learned more and more about punctuation. Yet, I have also come to learn about the importance of my job as an editor. I don't think I considered it as important as it really is. Throughout the week I learned about the use of a comma. I guess you can say that I know how to read a comma, but I don't always know how to write one into a sentence correctly. I also have never really understood hyphens, now I would be lying if I said I get them now, I still don't understand them completely. I will learn how to use them correctly by the end of this class though. This was also a good refresher on how to use apostrophe's. Punctuation is a very detail oriented thing. It is important to pay close attention to the use of it or the meaning of a sentence can change. Punctuation matters.
