This week I have come to the realization
of how much I do not know when it comes to proper punctuation. I think that we, as a community, have altered
our language for various forms of writing. Whether it is texting or your
favorite social media, we tend to forget the fundamentals. It becomes all too easy to forget when to
correctly use a comma, semicolon, or quotation marks. I have learned that I have very little
knowledge of what I am doing with a comma.
I think that not using the comma properly is fairly common. Whenever I have written a paper for a class I
have lived under the assumption that less is more with the comma. Personally, it
is much more noticeable that you don’t know what you are doing when your paper
is littered with them. I am glad to have
read chapter 8 on punctuation. However, I feel as though I will be checking
back on it on a very regular basis; I am not as familiar with it as I once thought
I was.
I
actually don’t have a punctuation error that I have encountered in the wild
this week. I would really rather not
make up some story of one just to fulfill the assignment, so I will give an
example of a spelling mistake instead. I work in a hands-on environment, and
proper grammar isn’t something that a lot of the guys at work tend to worry
about. However, if you are going to be
making signs for any future company please at least use spell check or reread
your own work. I had the joyous
experience of telling one of my managers that, “Parts Cadge” just seemed a
little off. I had to try as nicely as
possible to tell him the proper spelling of the word was cage.
For some reason I thought it would be easier to find a mistake than it really was! So I appreciated your honesty in your post. My example wasn't interesting by any means, so way to be.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how we all have our own difficulties, whether it is spelling, grammar or punctuation.
