Blog two

The biggest takeaway for me from the punctuation section was probably the quiz. I went through it feeling pretty confident and I’m really glad I checked my work. I went back through the style book and checked my answers. It was shocking when I realized how many I actually didn’t know. The colon gave me some issues on a few because I totally spaced that it introduced lists so I was using a comma instead. The other takeaway for me was quotation marks. This one gave me trouble because I was ending them with the wrong punctuation mark. When I went back through the questions with quotations marks I was really surprised on how many I had wrong. This was eye opening so I made sure I put a special emphasis on making sure I know this section front and back.

Overall I feel like I need a lot more work on this section. I’m glad I didn’t let my confidence fool me into thinking I knew more than I did. I need to study this section a lot more because it’s unbelievable all the small rules that I didn’t know. There is so many basic things that you can do with punctuation to help your writing. Once I can get this chapter down I feel like it’s going to be very beneficial to a few of my end of the semester papers.

  1. Chis, thank you for your post. I had a few issues with quotation marks as well. I learned that the punctuation mark goes inside the quotation regardless of where the attribution is.
