Week 12 - Justin Littlewood

Hello Everyone,

This week I think there were a few things that I learned while doing the headlines assignment and looking through the PowerPoints. Those two things that are most important in making a headline are to take the most important parts of the story to make the headline the best it can be. That, and it is important to read the entire story before you come up with the headline.
First taking the most important parts helps the reader in knowing if they should continue reading the story, or if it is even interesting to them at all. Like we were told the headline should be able to tell what the story is. Even though this may be the way to do it, I found that the first headline for every story in the assignment was the hardest to come up with, and the others built off that one.

Second, reading the entire story helps in knowing if there is something important hidden in the story that is not necessarily in the topic sentence or beginning paragraph. It familiarizes with those in the story and allows us to use words that were used in the story in the headline to draw the reader in better.
