Soft vs Hard News Headlines

Well, there were no instructions this week, but I assume that we are supposed to blog about headlines.
What I learned from headlines this week is writing in that much space is hard! I spent like 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get the words "Peanut allergy" in one line, or how to reword it.
I also noticed that the headline sets the tone for the entire piece. If it is a soft news piece, the headline tends to involve more wordplay, humor and jazz. It reflects how in soft news pieces you have more descriptive leads. I loved this example of a more soft-style headline from the reading:

A hard news piece is more likely to have a summary lead and a summary headline - something that just gets the point across.

My editing mistake for this week:

Oh dear. I have posted similar mistakes on the word "emphasize" before from my work, but this week we had TWO more. The question reads, "What does it mean when words are underlined?" The first answer is "To emphasis." The second example says "They are emphasize." Goodness gracious.
