The assignments were fun for me this week. Even though it is still homework I actually liked them! When finding certain headlines with different styles I thought it was very interesting because i've never before noticed the difference. I also read a lot of news stories as I was looking for these and learned what's going on around the world and in our country. I noticed that headlines with verbs were the ones I went for especially when it was a strong verb and had detail in the headline. I really enjoyed scrolling through and finding the different headlines and learning about them. While writing my own headlines I had the urge to put in a question as the headline. It was hard for me to think of a statement for one because I was too busy wondering how I could catch attention to the readers. I learned a good headline keeps it simple and informs! I think the most important thing is that a headline is catchy but it shouldn't be the main focus of the headline and it should still have truth and important information to it.

This week the grammar error that I caught was on a church marquee that is down the street from my house. They used the wrong form of "their" and it really bothered me, even though it could be just that they didn't have the right letters available for their old fashioned sign! It read:
"We must love everyone despite there choices."

  1. I think the headlines with the strong verbs stick out for me and it makes me want to read the story.
