Week 15 - Carly Rowe

Well here we are! Finals week (good luck, everyone!)
For this week's assignment, being an editor was sort of challenging, but it was also exciting! (Sort of.) I'm not one to want to go into editing, but I will say, I feel as if I am a better writer myself for being able to edit a friend's paper for her final semester in her program. A lot of what I found while I was editing her paper was the over use of commas in replace of periods. What would be considered a huge run-on sentence was cluttered with sometimes 3 or more commas to break it up. At that point, it was better to revise the sentence and break it up into two or so different sentences versus one super long sentence.
Another thing that I ran into while editing was the use of some unnecessary words or phrases that were used multiple times within the essay. Also, the use of questions. While questions are great to ask during essays to keep the reader's attention, sometimes there can be a thing of "too many questions." At this point, we took out some of the "answers" and rephrased the question into more of a statement.

I wish everyone a great holiday season, and best of luck wherever you may end up.

Editing mistake which I thought was funny because you would HOPE that the college knew how to correctly spell. :)

  1. Your editing mistake is hilarious! I think it's interesting that the college couldn't even spell "collage" correct.
