Week 13/14

Hi everybody!
I liked this week’s assignment. I work for a tech company and we help people with their online marketing. I spend a lot of time looking at company’s websites, and often have to identify issues with the site (because issues with the site sometimes lead to lack of sales - people don’t like being confused when they are trying to purchase something or learn something). This week’s assignment was fun for me, because I was able to look at some different aspects of web pages that I hadn’t thought of before. My husband also works at the same company, so he was helpful in giving me ideas of websites that had each of the specific traits I was looking for, though I didn’t have to look that hard. I think it would have been really fun to find bad examples of each, because there are some truly awful website designs and layouts out there!
I think the most important part of the website’s design is the font, meaning both the typeface and the color. Nothing irritates me more than going to a website with a really loopy looking font, because I have a hard time reading it. The same goes for a light font color on a light background or vise versa. Along the same lines, all websites should be mobile optimized. People use their smartphones and tablets to surf the web way more frequently than a computer these days, and it’s frustrating when a mobile site doesn’t resize itself while trying to search for something, or while trying to fill out a form area, you can’t see what you’re typing.

Anyway, this was a great assignment, and before this week, I hadn’t thought about editing this way!
